‘Music in the Gallery’ tickets going on sale

Art enthusiasts hoping to attend this year’s “Music in the Gallery” at the Fine Line Art Gallery here will have to act fast as only a limited number of tickets will go on sale Wednesday.
Just 35 people will be lucky enough to snap up the $8 tickets to the gala evening, which raises money for various art programs in the community.
The actual event will take place Friday, Nov. 8—which is a week later than originally planned.
“We moved the date because we didn’t want to compete with tour de Fort,” gallery spokeswoman Linda Lovisa noted this morning.
The fundraiser also is an opportunity for art and music lovers to gather and appreciate the talents of the local arts community.
“The Borderland Ensemble will be entertaining that night,” Lovisa said. “They are made up of Borderland Community Orchestra members and will be playing some old favourites.”
In addition to the gala, the Fine Line Art Gallery, located on Mowat Avenue, also is selling copies of “As Long as the Rivers Flow,” illustrated by artist Heather Holmlund, who originally is from Fort Frances.
As previously reported in the Times, Holmlund received the commission to illustrate the book—which tells the tale of a young native boy’s last summer at home before going off to a residential school—after a showing of her work at the gallery.
Copies of the book will be sold for $20.27, including GST.
In related news, Fine Line Gallery artists are preparing a host of workshops to take place next month, including a four-week watercolour workshop Lovisa will be teaching Nov. 5, 12, 19, and 26.
Classes will be held in both the afternoon and evening to make it more convenient for those attending.
“It is a beginner’s watercolour workshop but anyone who has painted before can also come and I can help them out with specific projects,” Lovisa explained.
Cost for the workshop is $65. Those interested can pre-register by calling the gallery.
There also will be Christmas wreath-making workshops Nov. 14-16. The one-day class, which costs $35, will teach people to make decorative wreaths from natural materials.
Fran Madigan also is planning to lead a painting on glass class, but dates and times have not been confirmed yet.
