Murder charge laid

A Seine River First Nation man has been charged in connection with a death last November at the Mid-Town Motel here.
The OPP yesterday arrested and charged Peter Deafy, 26, with second-degree murder.
The accused is in police custody, and was to appear in court here today.
On Nov. 2, 2012 around 9:15 a.m., OPP officers responded to a 9-1-1 call from a motel employee.
Officers responded within minutes and found a male deceased inside one of the motel rooms.
The victim was identified as Leo Whitecrow, 45, of Seine River First Nation.
A post-mortem examination was conducted in Kenora.
Police subsequently entered into a homicide investigation under the direction of Det. Insp. Peter Loree of the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch.
