A mural may welcome visitors to Canada and Fort Frances.
Town council gave the go-ahead Monday night to the economic development officer to pursue having a mural painted on the wall of Abitibi’s “lap” building at this end of the international bridge.
The wall once sported a smashed “Welcome to Canada” neon sign which presented visitors with a show of broken plastic, wires, and metal last summer
Although no one claimed ownership for the “Welcome to Canada” sign, Abitibi-Consolidated had offered to install a new plastic panel to repair the damaged sign within the month but the sign was since removed and the wall has been bare ever since.
Another possible partner in a new mural, the local Business Improvement Area, was planning to have a mural painted on the wall of the Masonic Lodge but may be approached to repriorize the location of its next mural to the “lap” building.
