NDP MPs John Rafferty (Thunder Bay-Rainy River) and Charlie Angus (Timmins-James Bay) yesterday planted a tree in Birch Point Park in Thunder Bay to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Jack Layton’s passing.
“Jack touched so many people in our community,” said Rafferty.
“Today’s tree-planting gave Thunder Bay residents a chance to remember Jack, and to renew their commitment to keep his message of love, hope, and optimism alive in their hearts,” he added.
Ceremonies were held across Canada over the weekend to remember Layton, which will culminate in a large celebration at Toronto’s Nathan Phillips Square on Wednesday hosted by the Layton family and featuring prominent Canadian performers.
