Motus O, known for their exuberant and accessible style of dance theatre, brings to their audience a blend of theatrics, ballet, and improvisational movement.
They combine stunning visuals, gracefulness, and physical feats to create a show people never forget.
And the dynamic trio will be making their way to the Townshend Theatre stage here next Wednesday (March 21) at 7:30 p.m. as part of the “tour de Fort” concert series.
tour de Fort president Wendy Brunetta is excited about the upcoming performance and is certain the dance troupe will please concert-goers.
“tour de Fort is very pleased to introduce dance to our program this year,” she said. “The increased enrolment in local dance schools shows there really is a keen interest in dance in our community.
“Motus O is a very professional troupe. Their expert display of contemporary dance will entertain and captivate our audience,” Brunetta enthused.
Since 1980, Motus O directors and performers–Jack Langenhuizen, James Croker, and Cindy Croker–have been working individually and collectively on a number of creative and educational projects.
While this will be the first time the trio has performed for tour de Fort, their unique performance style is not new to the community. They were regulars of the local Kids & Company entertainment series and president Gaby Emond was anxious to bring them back.
“Motus O left us all in awe,” she said. “[They have] unbelievably strong athleticism and unique creativity.”
In presenting works which are visually stimulating, physically challenging, and communicative, Motus O is hoping to expand the art of dance to the general public.
From 1980-87, the group toured with the former Academy of Performing Arts (Cambridge, Ont.), performing in both street and international theatre venues.
In 1985, they did their first collective work and five years later, the trio officially came together to establish themselves as Motus O dance theatre.
Since then, they’ve created five full-length productions, including their current piece, “Delusions,” which takes a look at the quirks and turmoils of the topsy-turvy world we live in.
What makes the group unique is that they often do not create with one choreographer but rather as a group and in a collaborative style. In this way, they challenge each other’s perceptions in order to achieve genuine expression.
Full of beauty, emotion, and humour, Motus O promises to take their audience on a thrilling ride that will leave them breathless.
