More interest needed

Prospective candidates for the fall municipal and school board elections, as well as those who plan to be a third-party advertiser in the elections, are being urged to sign up for an information session tentatively slated for June 27 here.
But more people will have to sign up to make the session a “go.”
Town clerk Lisa Slomke told the Times she needs to have at least 10 people signed up for the info session by next Thursday (June 21), otherwise the Ministry of Municipal Affairs will cancel it.
Four people had signed up as of yesterday afternoon.
To register for the session, contact Slomke at 274-5323 ext. 1215 or via e-mail at
There is no charge to attend.
When registering, advise Slomke if you require special accommodations.
If it goes ahead, the session will take place on Wednesday, June 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the Civic Centre.
The session will provide attendees with information on topics such as the role of council and staff, the nomination process, financial filing, the campaign period, candidate duties and responsibilities, and rules regarding third-party advertisers.
In related news, no one yet has filed nomination papers here to run for mayor or council in the Oct. 22 municipal election.
Nominations close at 2 p.m. on July 27.
