More fire aid sent to British Columbia

The Ministry of Natural Resources deployed a total of 140 Type 1 initial attack FireRangers and two agency reps to British Columbia yesterday from Thunder Bay and Dryden.
As well, 60 Type 1 initial attack FireRangers and two agency reps were deployed to B.C. from Sudbury.
These 204 staff have joined the 287 staff currently in B.C., making a combined total of 491 personnel.
More resources will be deployed as requested.
Some 100 Mark III power pumps and intake hoses, as well as 3,000 lengths of hose, left Thunder Bay bound for B.C. on Friday afternoon.
That brought the total up to 230 Mark III power pumps and intake hoses, and 11,560 lengths of hose.
In related news, one new fire was reported yesterday near Lac de Mille Lac.
Thunder Bay fire crews were deployed via boat and helicopter to the fire, which was burning in a standing white pine.
It has since been extinguished.
One new fire was reported in the West Fire Region on Friday.
Kenora District Fire #38 was a 0.1-ha blaze located just west of Conifer Lake, which is about 65km due west of Ear Falls.
This fire was located on an island and has since been put “out.”
There currently are four active fires in the region, all of which are located in Sioux Lookout District.
The most recent was started by a lightning strike Aug. 10.
The forest fire hazard for Northwestern Ontario remains “low.”
