More file for election


With the nomination deadline coming up next Friday (July 27), more district individuals have filed their papers to run in the Oct. 22 municipal election.
In Fort Frances, newcomer Clinton D. C. Gray is the newest candidate running for one of six seats on town council. Gray filed his nomination last Thursday afternoon.
He joins incumbent Coun. Wendy Brunetta, who is seeking re-election.
Meanwhile, current town councillors June Caul and Ken Perry both are vying to be mayor here.
Don Canfield has filed for re-election to the Rainy River District Social Services Administration Board.
And incumbent trustee Cathy Piotrowski has filed to run for one of two seats representing Fort Frances on the Northwest Catholic District School Board.
In Alberton Township, Coun. Mike Ford has filed to run for reeve.
Incumbent Coun. Jennifer Johnson also filed to run for a seat on Alberton council, as did newcomer Diane Glowasky.
In the Township of LaVallee, both current councillor Lucille MacDonald and newcomer Ken Hyatt have filed to run for reeve while newcomer Jim Belluz has put his name in for a seat on council.
In the Township of Emo, councillor Warren Toles is seeking re-election, while Carmon “Dusty” Sheppard has filed to run for council for the first time.
In the Township of Chapple, current Ward 2 councillor Rilla Race and newcomer Robert Barron both are running for reeve in the Oct. 22 election.
Coun. Rick Nielson is running again to represent Ward 4, while James Gibson seeks re-election in Ward 3 and Ken Wilson filed to be re-elected in Ward 1.
In Morley Township, current reeve George Heyens is seeking re-election.
And in the Town of Rainy River, newcomers Brent Helgeson, Andrew Hartnell, and Paul Caruso all have filed for positions on council, joining incumbent Coun. Gordon Prost who is seeking re-election.
In the Township of Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls, Norbert Dufresne, Phil Hudson, Gale Black, and Suzanne Bouvier all are seeking re-election to the municipal council seats there.
Newcomers Matthew Rydberg and Steve Salvador have also filed to run for council.
Nominations for the fall election close at 2 p.m. on July 27.
