The Fine Line Art Gallery wants to remind artists working in any medium that they’re welcome to register for its annual spring art show coming up April 10-May 6.
Jean Richards, a member of the Fine Line co-op, said yesterday the theme for this year’s show is the colour red, following in the footsteps of “Shades of Yellow” in 2002 and “Out of the Blues” in 2004.
She added the theme is open to any interpretation—be it variations on the colour, an emotion, or anything else artists can think of.
The deadline for artists to submit their work, which may be in any medium (watercolour, oil, stained glass, sculpture, etc.), is April 5.
Richards said the show is starting to generate some interest, but would like to see more artists sign up.
“We’ve got hopefuls, and those who are working on stuff,” she noted, adding she has some ideas for her piece bright now but may very well be inspired by her trip to St. Kitts next month.
“I think we’ll get more entries than we did last year for ‘Cup and Dish,’” added Richards.
On average, the spring art show draws 40 entries.
The cost to enter is $10 (artists are limited to one work each). If the artist so desires, their piece will be for sale.
Artists wanting to enter their work in the show should pick up an entry form at the Fine Line Art Gallery (529 Mowat Ave.) or call 274-1269 before the April 5 deadline.
A “Music in the Gallery” event also is being planned for the evening of May 6, featuring music and refreshments, noted Richards.
In related news, Richards said there’s definitely things for the artistically-inclined to do in the next couple months.
On Wednesday (March 1), Vi Plumridge will be having both an afternoon and an evening class for watercolour monoprints. This course costs $10.
Then in April, Barb Stevens will hold a watercolour workshop, with a second one slated for May.
Also in April, Debbie Ballard will be having a spring wreath-making class. Spots are still open for this, too.
There also will be a birchbark and leaf-painting workshop some time this spring, though no firm date has been set. But those interested can reserve a spot for the session right now.
Richards noted anyone wanting to hold their own workshop is welcome to drop by the gallery and pitch their idea, stressing you do not have to be a member of the Fine Line co-op to instruct.
For more information on any of these workshops, or the upcoming art show, drop by the gallery or call 274-1269.
