FORT FRANCES—With the deadline for nominees to put their names in for the Nov. 13 municipal election coming up Friday at 5 p.m., six more people have stepped forward to run for various positions as of press time.
Most recently joining the race for a seat on town council are G. Paul Ryan, Nick Wihnan, and Allan T. Bedard.
They join incumbents John Albanese, Tannis Drysdale, Todd Hamilton, Neil Kabel, and Rick Wiedenhoeft, as well as former councillor and mayoral candidate Sharon Tibbs, former Fort High teacher Andrew Hallikas, and local contractor Ken Perry.
In the mayors’ race, Mayor Dan Onichuk is vying against Coun. Roy Avis so far.
Meanwhile, Anne Marie Fitzgerald and Paul Cousineau have joined Gerry Rousseau and Harold Huntley in seeking election to the Northwest Catholic District School Board, which has three seats allotted for Fort Frances reps.
So far, Donna Dittaro and Dan Belluz are the only two people who have put their names in for the pair of Fort Frances seats up for grabs on the Rainy River District School Board.
And local dentist Dr. Mary Ellen Kennedy is seeking re-election to the French-language separate school board (Le conseil scolaire de district catholique des Aurores boréales).
The Town of Fort Frances will continue to accept nominations until 5 p.m. on Friday. The cost is $200 for mayor and $100 for all other offices.
