Nominations for the 16th-annual Bell Business Awards are going a little slow, and the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce is hoping many more come in prior to the Feb. 10 deadline.
As of yesterday, Chamber manager Anthony Mason said he had received about a dozen nominations—a far cry from the total of 70 from this time last year.
“So we need a couple more,” he chuckled.
“People, sharpen those pencils,” he urged. “There must be people out there that have done something to deserve recognition.
“I have heard people say, ‘Yeah, I am getting it in there, I am going to get it filled out,’ but I don’t have them.”
Mason said the sooner the Chamber gets the nominations, the better as they need time to send out packages to nominees to get more information from them.
Nomination forms can be downloaded from the Chamber’s website at www.fortfranceschamber.com
The 16th-annual Bell Business Awards gala dinner is slated for Thursday, Feb. 23 at the Adventure Inn.
The various award categories include Business of the Year (1-15/16+ employees), Employee of the Year, Business Woman of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, and Customer Service (individual/business).
Rounding out the categories are the Tony Beyak Memorial Volunteer of the Year, Small Business Trainer of the Year, Safety Award (business or individual), Home-Based Business, and Accessibility Award.
For a full description of each category, see the nomination form.
Nominees do not have to belong to the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce to be eligible to win, with past winners having been individuals and businesses from across the district.
Meanwhile, tickets for the gala are now on sale. They cost $45 each, and are available at Causeway Insurance or the Rainy River Future Development Corp. office.
To reserve tickets or an entire table, contact Robin Payeur (274-6688) or Cynde Milette (274-3276).
Cocktails will be at 6 p.m., with dinner at 6:30.
Dr. Bruce Lidkea of Lidkea Optometry, the 2011 Business of the Year (1-15 employees), will emcee while Dave Ashworth will provide the entertainment.
