Council named more local citizens to various town committees at Monday night’s regular meeting.
Peter Sas was appointed to the Planning Advisory Committee while Nicole Baird, Terry Revus, and Louise Kahler was named to the Community Activities Advisory Committee.
Audrey Martinson, Gord McTaggart, and David Kozar were appointed to the Museum Advisory Committee, with James R. Cumming, Bill Liggins, and Kayne Shaw being named to the Recreation Advisory Committee.
In other business Monday night, council approved the temporary suspension of calendar parking regulations at 459 Church St. because the residents there—Lisa and Kerry Grinsell—have a disabled daughter and need to park on the street to more easily transport their daughter from the house to a waiting vehicle.
This only is under the conditions that the vehicle be left running, its emergency four-way lights are on, the handicap sign is visible, the elapsed time shall not exceed a half-hour, the approval is not transferable to others, and the approval may be revoked at the discretion of the town.
Also Monday, council:
•referred a request for financial support to help repair the Canadian National Institute for the Blind’s mobile eye care van to the Administration and Finance executive committee for a recommendation;
•approved the replacement of the Memorial Spots Centre pool filtration system at the cost of $24,850 plus GST (this will come from reserves);
•approved the lease of town-owned land at McIrvine Road to Leesa and Michael Schmid and J. Wickstrom;

•deferred a report suggesting the Public Transportation Advisory Committee not be established, and instead expand the role the Traffic Safety Committee to deal with transportation issues, to a future meeting at which Mayor Dan Onichuk can be present;
•agreed to support motions from the City of Dryden regarding petitioning the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Finance to have the funding of disease prevention and health promotion services changed to be the complete responsibility of the province; and
•declined to support of motion from “Concerned Citizens” of Brechin, Ont. regarding municipal tax assessment.
