More accolades for local artist

Local artist Cher Pruys continues to accrue accolades in the art world, garnering awards and getting published in art books and calendars.
Pruys’ already award-winning painting, “Polished,” recently won the prestigious Award of Merit at the 18th-annual International Horizon of Flight Competition and Exhibit held at Simuflite Center in Dallas-Fort Worth, Tex.
“Polished” also was selected to be displayed in a special exhibit of the “All Time Best Works of the American Society of Aviation Artists,” to be held at the Art Centre of Battle Creek in Michigan on June 5-July 28.
Pruys has had two works, “Yankee Lady” and “Autumn Reflections,” juried into the International ASAA 2012 Aerospace Art Exhibition to be on display at the Kalamazoo Aviation Museum in Portage, Mich. on June 3-Sept. 8.
Meanwhile, the esteemed “Best Of Artists Publications” has selected three of Pruys’ works to appear in a two-page, full-colour spread in their hardcover, “Best Of Acrylic Artists Volume 1.”
The three pieces are “Polished,” as well as “Remote Waters” and a portrait of her granddaughter, Jenaya, entitled “Take Time.”
In an e-mail to the Times, Pruys explained this is not an aviation-based book but part of a series that showcases a variety of artists and artisans from around the world and distributes to collectors worldwide.
They also publish the well-read “Artist’s Magazine.”
“I think what was so exciting for me was to be approached and then selected by the ‘Best of the Artists’ publishers as this has no connection to the aviation work, but rather all types of work,” Pruys remarked.
“And to have one of my other pieces [“Take Time”], as well as the two aviation ones, selected was unreal,” she added.
“They are the only two aviation ones in the book, which features 80 artists’ works,” said Pruys.
As well, two of Pruys’ works, “Best Friends” and “Truly Canadian,” were selected to be part of a 12-image agenda calendar and 2012 desk calendar, both of which are distributed to aeronautical establishments worldwide by DEMA Aeronautics.
