Fort Frances Power Corporation (FFPC) has joined forces with other regional hydro providers to promote a suite of programs aimed at saving residents and businesses across northwestern Ontario.
In a joint press release from the FFPC, Atikokan Hydro Inc., Sioux Lookout Hydro and Synergy North Corporation, the businesses said they’re working to inform hydro customers across the region about a number of energy efficiency and conservation programs available to them from the Ontario Government’s “Save on Energy” Programs. The hydro corporations said the programs come through a continuing partnership with Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) and the Save on Energy initiative, which means that hydro customers have access to “a broad range of energy-saving programs and incentives” that have been designed to reduce electricity costs, support sustainable energy usage and to improve the comfort of homes and businesses.
“Together, the four local electricity distributors are encouraging customers across Northwestern Ontario
to explore the wide range of available incentives and supports,” they said in their release.
The hydro corporations note some of the programs available for homeowners and renters through the Save on Energy initiative include Peak Perks, through which customers can save $75 for enrolling in automated smart thermostat adjustments during periods of high electricity demand, the Home Renovation Savings Program, through which customers can receive rebates on energy-efficient upgrades such as insulation, heat pumps, smart thermostats, windows and more, and the Energy Affordability Program, which can see income-qualified households become eligible for free energy-saving upgrades or energy-saving kits.
“These programs help homeowners and renters across the region manage energy costs, enhance home comfort, and increase efficiency while contributing to a more resilient local grid,” the corporations said in the release.
There are also a number of incentives available to businesses across the region who are looking to improve their energy performance and operational efficiency, such as a Retrofit Program which can provide financial support for upgrading to more efficient equipment, a Small Business Program for incentives for energy-efficient lighting and other products, the Expanded Energy Management Program which can provide funding to develop internal energy management strategies, among several others.
The business initiatives are aimed at helping local businesses reduce their operating costs while strengthening their competitiveness and helping to support the long-term economic viability of communities across northwestern Ontario, according to the press release. Additionally, medium and large commercial customers also have access to “expert guidance” to help them identify energy efficiency opportunities and identify available incentives.
“Atikokan Hydro, Fort Frances Power, Sioux Lookout Hydro, and Synergy North are committed to
helping our customers make the most of every kilowatt,” says Jake Allen, Regional Program Supervisor.
“By promoting these energy efficiency and conservation programs, we’re investing in stronger homes,
more efficient businesses, and a more sustainable future for Northwestern Ontario.”
Customers can explore program details, as well as apply for different initiatives, through the provincial Save on Energy platform or related program websites.
