Moffat Fund to be doled out


The Moffat Family Fund will be dispersed to 10 local clubs and charities at the evening’s council meeting.
This year’s recipients include:
•the 908 Rainy Lake Air Cadet Squadron;
•Sunny Cove Camp;
•OPP Youth Foundation;
•Fort Frances Multi Use/Tennis Court Committee;
•Salvation Army;
•Community Garden & Kids Garden Club;
•Friends for Kids Sports;
•I Am Awesome (and I Know It) Initiative;
•Fort Frances Curling Club; and
•Fort Frances Judo Club.
The funds will be given out at a presentation starting at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers.
The committee of the whole meeting starts at 4:30 p.m., but will be in-camera for an unspecified period of time.
Other business on the agenda includes:
•a request for a refund of a fee for a minor variance (1108 First St. East);
•a tender for a new heavy-duty mechanical broom sweeper and trade-in of the 2001 Elgin Whirlwind vacuum truck;
•a report: a seniors’ community grant agreement with the Ontario Seniors Secretariat;
•a report on the Point Park dock from Fire Chief Frank Sheppard;
•a verbal update on capital projects;
•various per diems claims for members of council;
•a presentation of the 2014 financial statement by auditors BDO Canada;
•oral reports from the various divisions;
•a donation request form the Watten Fire Dept;
•a sponsorship request from the Fort Frances Aquanaut Swim Team;
•a financial consideration from Heart of the Continent Partnership;
•a letter from resident L. Hamilton re: cellular service;
•a sponsorship request from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine;
•a per capita request from Sunset Country Travel Association;
•a letter from Ontario Federation of Anglers & Hunters asking for support of the spring bear hunt in Ontario;
•a bylaw to regulate smoking in public places and workplaces in the Town of Fort Frances;
•a bylaw to amend the bylaw governing remuneration and benefits for elected officials This amendment is to allow the council representative on the Regional Economic Development Committee (REDC) to now collect a per diem when attending REDC meetings;
•a bylaw to authorize the signing of a memorandum of settlement with Nicole Cheetham; and
•a request to proclaim Aug. 1, 2015 at “Duncan Keith Day” in the Town of Fort Frances.
