The Moffat Fund committee likely will have its work cut out deciding which applicants get a share of the $37,500 the town once again has received to redistribute to local worthwhile causes.
As of Friday afternoon’s deadline, the town received a total of 19 applications from local groups and service clubs aiming to help youths and families.
A total of $112,933 has been applied for.
The Moffat Fund committee, consisting of Couns. John Albanese, Andrew Hallikas, and Paul Ryan, along with Marie Howells, Angel Sandoval, Linda Hamilton, and Fort Frances CAO Mark McCaig, will meet tomorrow to review and select the successful applicants.
As in past years, the funding proposals must benefit children, families, and the “less advantaged.”
The committee’s recommendations will go to council for approval on April 11, then be forwarded to the Winnipeg Foundation for final approval.
Approved recipients will receive a share of the $37,500 at a council meeting in June.
This is the ninth-straight year the Town of Fort Frances is getting money from the Moffat Family Fund.
Of the $37,000 it received last year, the local Salvation Army was given the lion’s share—$10,000.
KidSport—Fort Frances received $8,500, with $5,000 going to the local United Native Friendship Centre and $3,500 to the Rainy River District Festival Association.
Other recipients included the Fort Frances Museum ($3,000), the 908 Rainy Lake Air Cadet Squadron ($3,000), the Fort Frances Girls’ Hockey Association ($2,500), and the Fort Frances Highlanders ($2,000).
