Moffat Fund deadlline nears

FORT FRANCES—With exactly one week to go before the Feb. 16 deadline, local groups and service clubs aimed at helping youths and families are reminded to pick up applications for the Moffat Family Fund.
Town administrative assistant Lori Pattison said Friday morning that only three applications have been turned in so far, but added there’s definite interest in applying as between 40-50 forms have been picked up in the past month.
As previously reported, the Town of Fort Frances will be receiving $50,000 from the Moffat Family Fund for the fifth-straight year to redistribute to local worthwhile causes.
Organizations are encouraged to start submitting their requests for a portion of that funding, along with supporting rationale.
Information packages are now available at the Civic Centre or by calling 274-5323. Applications have to be submitted by 2 p.m. next Friday (Feb. 16).
As in previous years, non-profit organizations are welcome to apply but must keep in mind that funding proposals must benefit children, families, and the “less advantaged.”
Organizations from outside Fort Frances whose activities do not have a direct benefit to town residents will not be considered.
Once the deadline passes, the local Moffat Fund committee will choose recipients and forward those selections on to the Winnipeg Foundation for approval prior to the end of March.
Those recipients then likely will receive their share of the $50,000 in late spring.
