This year’s “Mitts for Kids” campaign will be wrapping up this week, with the cash collection boxes that have been distributed to local businesses to be picked up Thursday.
As such, those who want to help local children keep their hands warm this winter have until then to donate at one of the 15-20 boxes that have been distributed to numerous businesses in the downtown area.
Those interested also can call organizer Melissa Gushulak directly to donate mittens.

Gushulak said this morning she has not received any calls regarding donations.
She would love to hear from anyone wanting to give new, store-bought mittens for children, new, homemade knitted mittens, or money to buy mittens.
This Thursday, Gushulak will be collecting the cash collection boxes and use the money to buy children’s mittens from The Bargain Shop, which once again has agreed to give her a discount.
Bought or donated mittens then will be forwarded to the Kenora-Rainy River Districts Child & Family Services’ “Adopt-An-Angel” program.
These, in turn, will go to district children ranging from infants to teens.
Gushulak previously had said she hopes to raise enough money to buy at least 100 pairs of new mittens.
