RED LAKE, Ont.—A woman reported missing one week ago has been found alive.
Police said Valerie Cain, 45, spent six days in the bush near the Chukuni River south of Red Lake.
A float plane operator had spotted her vehicle on Friday.
The OPP, along with a helicopter and marine unit, searched the area throughout the day and a ground search continued into Saturday morning, when a person near the area of Snowshoe Falls Dam discovered the missing woman near the river around 8:30 a.m.
Police said Cain was in good condition, although she was found suffering from dehydration and numerous insect bites.
Police are crediting Cain’s good physical condition, determination, and strong will in aiding her ability to survive during her six-day ordeal.
Her relatives had reported her missing July 12 after she failed to show up for her shift at Red Lake Cochenour Memorial Hospital.
Police have not yet released details surrounding the circumstances leading to her week-long ordeal.
