Registration for this year’s mini-king and mini-queen contest here is now open.
Organizer Melissa Gushulak noted, as in past years, the contest is open to boys and girls aged four-seven (as of July 1).
Each child will be asked a few questions, with judges choosing the winners.
But this year, due to a lack of sponsors, Gushulak said she’ll only be able to accept five boys and five girls for the contest.
“I just won’t have enough [money] to get prizes for more contestants,” she explained.
While someone is making and donating the banners for the winners, Gushulak said she always provides small prizes for all the contestants.
But if any individuals or businesses step up to the plate to donate funds before the weekend, she gladly will increase the number of spots.
“I wish we could have more but it’s better than not having it at all,” Gushulak reasoned.
The contest will be held in conjunction with the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship this year.
It will be held on the stage under the tent next Thursday (July 23) at 1 p.m.
Miss Teenage Rainy River District Alyssa Chiasson will be helping out by asking the children the questions.
There is a $5 registration fee to enter.

Registration will be open until noon Monday (or until the spaces fill up).
