Press Release
Staff and students have benefited from numerous opportunities as a result of the September, 2008 amalgamation between the Mine Centre District School Area Board and the Rainy River District School Board.
Board staff and Mine Centre staff worked closely to align technical and administrative processes, and to ensure a smooth transition for all staff and students.
It was recognized the amalgamation would offer positive educational impacts on the life-long learning of the current pupils and those of the future.
Due to its strong partnerships with Nigigoonsiminikaaning (Red Gut Bay) and Seine River First Nations’ communities, the Mine Centre School environment is rich in aboriginal culture.
This supports the Rainy River District School Board’s endeavours to develop a deeper understanding of local First Nations’ culture and traditions with staff and students in all of its schools, and to provide cultural opportunities that celebrate the board’s diverse communities.
Staff members have had opportunities to learn from each other through Professional Learning Communities, assistance from program support staff, and workshops and courses.
The opportunities for staff to learn from one another through networking and research-based instruction will impact greatly on student achievement over time.
The board’s recent reinvestment of $1.2 million for SMART technology (interactive whiteboards and tables) will provide a greater number of technology-enhanced classrooms to create new opportunities in teaching and learning.
By this September, this technology will be available in a majority of the board’s regular classrooms.
