Barring any last-minute glitches, the new Fort Frances Lions’ Millennium Park should be completed by the middle of next week–in time for its grand opening July 8 at 2 p.m.
Local MP Robert Nault, also the minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, NDP leader and local MPP Howard Hampton, and the Lions’ district governor from Grand Rapids, Mn. are expected to attend.
A hotdog barbecue, courtesy of Canada Safeway, and pop, courtesy of Pepsi-Cola, will be available for the public.
Project supervisor Tony Kadikoff said plans are in place to test the water fountain system today, and for Hammond’s Landscaping to begin laying the walkway around its base.
The project was set back about a week due to the recent rain but otherwise no problems affected its progress.
“The famous $100 bricks will be put in place Thursday,” Kadikoff said, noting Hammond’s will lay the bricks at random.
Coloured lights will add special effects to the six-foot water sprays in the centre of the fountain, with a constant wave motion effect in the pool itself.
The picnic shelter also is about 80 percent complete. All that remains to be done there is the construction of a 10-foot high, 12-foot diameter teepee peak, roof shingles, and the bricking around the support columns.
“There will be a photocell light in the picnic shelter as well so that if there’s anybody causing trouble there at night, they can be seen from the street,” Kadikoff warned.
