Mill to start up again soon

Resolute Forest Products will be starting up kraft mill operations and one paper machine soon at its Fort Frances mill.
The company curtailed paper production at the end of November, then halted both the kraft and paper-making operations entirely since Christmas.
Pierre Choquette, Resolute’s manager of Canadian Public Affairs, confirmed yesterday afternoon that one paper machine will be re-started during the first week of February.
He added the company will continue to monitor market conditions before starting the second paper machine.
Meanwhile, a source told the Times that kraft mill workers have been informed the kraft mill will start up again Jan. 28.
The company had announced in late November that it would be curtailing its paper-making operations at the local mill for the final five weeks of 2011 due to poor market conditions.
Then in mid-December, the company confirmed not only would the kraft mill be shut down at Christmas, but both kraft and paper-making operations would be halted until the end of the January, or when market conditions improved.
