The local AbitibiBowater pulp and paper mill will shut down for one week starting this Sunday due to poor market conditions.
Mill manager John Harrison said late yesterday that kraft and paper mill will be completely down for the week with operations starting back up the following Sunday (July 26).
Harrison noted the mill was have “minimal manning levels next week,” with the majority of the 600 union and non-union mill staff impacted by the one-week shutdown. Staff were notified Wednesday.
The mill last shut down in late March-early April for a few weeks. Before that, the mill was shutdown over the Christmas break (Dec. 24-Jan. 2).
