This morning at 10:20 a.m., Abitibi-Consolidated was notified of an effluent line leak at the corner of Central Avenue and Fourth Street West.
The leak was flowing at approximately 100 gallons/minute into a storm sewer on Fourth Street by the old CN Station.
The cause of the leak is still under investigation.
All three machines at the mill were shut down immediately and the flow from the leak stopped within 40 minutes of notification. The kraft mill had already been shut down for annual maintenance.
Repairs to the line will begin immediately. The paper machines will restart as son those repairs are done.
