The Abitibi-Consolidated paper mill in Fort Frances currently is conducting a staff review, with a reported 20 people having been laid off at this time, mill sources said.
A list of those who have lost their jobs was circulated to mill staff earlier this week, one source noted.
The list still is not finalized, however, and more cuts may be announced by the end of Friday, the person added.
A general staff meeting is expected to be held at the mill Monday, at which time it’s possible more information may be confirmed and made available to the public, another source said.
Neither local mill management nor Abitibi-Consolidated’s media contact in Montreal returned phone calls or e-mails as of press time Friday.
