Mill assets up for auction this summer

Former mill assets will be further dismantled at what’s being advertised as a “mayor four-day multi-million dollar paper mill event.”

On the website for Corporate Assets Inc, which specializes in industrial plant auctions, appraisals and asset management, an auction has been scheduled for Monday, August 31 to Thursday, September 3, by appointment only, at 427 Mowat Avenue, Fort Frances.

All items sold must be removed from the site by October 1, the site states.

The auction site states the sale is being held in partnership between Corporate Assets Inc and CAN-AM Machinery, Inc, a Massachusetts-based company which specializes in the sale of used equipment for the pulp and paper industry.

Although a full brochure hasn’t been posted yet, auction items will include: “three Fine White Paper Machines with related production support equipment; Complete Pulp Mill with related production support equipment; Stone Ground Wood Mill with related production support equipment; Huge Quantity of Electrical Power Distribution Equipment; Assortment of Machining & Fabricating Equipment; Rolling Stock and Material Handling Equipment; Waste Water Treatment Facility; huge quantity of MRO spares; Factory Support Equipment and much more!”

The Fort Frances mill was closed by Resolute Forest Products in 2014. Two companies have attempted to purchase the mill since that time, but both walked away in part due to the inability to secure a cost-effective wood supply. Resolute sold the mill in July 2019 to a numbered company associated with Riversedge Developments, which “is a restorative development company specializing in the integrated revitalization of industrial properties,” according to its website.
