Back in June, Bill Michl started fundraising for The Arthritis Society. His goal is to raise $6,300, which would meet his obligation to the Society as a “Joints In Motion” training team member.
Michl would like to wrap up his fundraising. For those of you who meant to donate but just haven’t gotten around to it, Michl would like to hear from you.
Once the fundraising is done, he will begin training to participate in a marathon on the Great Wall of China this coming May.
All the funds raised stay in the local Arthritis Society area, and go towards research, mechanical devices, and therapies to help make life more comfortable for the more than one in five people in Northwestern Ontario who suffer from this very painful and crippling disease.
There are more than 100 different types of arthritis—and all of them can severely restrict a person from living a normal active life.
As a “Joints In Motion” participant, Michl will be running for a local “Arthritis Hero” (someone who suffers from arthritis).
This time, he will run for Gaby Hanzuk, who suffers from psoriatic arthritis that has severely hampered her physical capabilities and causes much pain in all her daily activities.
“I am close to my goal and am hoping that the Christmas spirit will encourage people to generously donate to such a worthy cause and push me over the top,” said Michl.
“I’d also like to say a big thank you to everyone who has so generously supported me,” he added.
Melvin Haukaas, a friend who suffers from severe rheumatoid arthritis, is helping Michl with his fundraising.
Haukaas builds “Windmels” and pinball machines as a hobby, and donates the proceeds from the sale of these to The Arthritis Society through Michl’s campaign.
So far, Haukaas has donated about $1,100.
