A brand-new store has opened on Scott Street, bringing curated home decor and other items to the former For Your Pets location on the town’s main strip.
Kasey Meyers is the proprietor of Meyers Mercantile. Originally from Rainy River, she and her husband, Devin, wanted to bring something special to the area.
“We decided to start a home decor, lifestyle and design store,” she said. “We love home decorating, design, old buildings, and architecture. So, when this opportunity came up, we thought it’d be a great idea to create something special.”
The story features a variety of products, from throw pillows and blankets to coffee and flavoured syrups, to baby. A few pet products are still hanging around as well.
“We have home decor, a little bit of lifestyle, like kid and baby items, a few pet items, coffee and syrups, and a little section of eco-friendly products as well,” Meyers told The Times a few days ahead of the store’s official opening on Sept. 24.

Meyers Mercantile will also stock seasonal decor that will change with upcoming holidays and seasons. The store is also open to working with local vendors to feature their wares in the store. The store already has a display of Elleair Candle Co. candles, and the coffee they sell is from a roaster located in Dryden.
Meyers is hoping to grow the business going forward in collaboration with her husband’s Meyers Carpentry.
“At this point, we are just kind of starting with the storefront,” she said. “Eventually, we would like to grow and expand and kind of bring his carpentry business into it with a little bit more design, renovation, things like that. So that’s definitely something we’re looking forward to in the future.”
The location has changed significantly since its days as a pet store, with Meyers and her husband finding some vintage gems as they renovated.
“There were lots of renovations, lots of long days,” Meyers said. “We tried to preserve some of the original character, so the floors, the ceiling, and we’re working on the outside.”
The ceiling is tin, as is characteristic of some other Scott Street establishments, and the Meyers have refinished the original hardwood floors as well.
Meyers worked to make the space comfortable for customers.
“We’ve always enjoyed home decorating and design, and wanted to make a cozy, warm, inviting space,” she said.
“We’ve done many projects, flipping different houses that we’ve lived in, bringing back character. We’re big on preserving character and original details, so we’ve carefully curated pieces that we feel like will be timeless and intentional and hopefully inspire people to make their homes inviting, cozy and a place that they love to be.”
Meyers Mercantile is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
