Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Frances is launching a “Messy Church” event on the second Tuesday of each month.
“It’s a family fun night where you don’t have to come up with the ideas, you don’t have to shell out a lot of cash, and you don’t have to deal with any chaos in your own home,” explained organizer Sherri Putzer.
She indicated the idea of a “Messy Church” event began in England when one woman wanted church to be more appealing to the whole family.
“Now there are over 1,400 ‘Messy Churches’ found all over the world,” Putzer exclaimed.
“I am wanting to bring ‘Messy Church’ to our community for a couple of reasons,” she added.
“First, I love the idea of a way to bring people of all ages together,” she noted. “‘Messy Church’ includes everyone, no matter of age or religion.
“Secondly, because everyone is so busy with work, school, and extra-curricular activities, many families find it hard to get quality time together,” Putzer continued.
“Here, ‘Messy Church’ takes care of all that—meals, crafts, venue all arranged.”
Putzer said the only thing families have to do is show up and enjoy.
“Better yet, it’s free,” she enthused. “It’s a win-win situation.”
Putzer stressed her goal for “Messy Church” is to help people come together.
“Also, some think of church in a negative way,” she added. “I want people to realize that it doesn’t have to be.”
The first “Messy Church” at Zion Lutheran will take place tomorrow (May 14) beginning at 5:30 p.m.
“Come and enjoy a home-cooked meal, work on crafts with your kids, relax, and share stories, songs, and more,” she urged, adding it will be a positive atmosphere.
But Putzer said because they are encouraging a family-type fellowship, no unattended children will be allowed.
