McQuarrie pursuing Tim Horton’s franchise

“They’re coming.”
That’s the word Gord McQuarrie, owner of Skates & Blades here, gave when asked yesterday if a Tim Horton’s would open in Fort Frances down the road.
“I’m in the process of pursuing a franchise,” he noted. “I’m pursuing one for sure, but I can’t really say much more than that right now.”
McQuarrie did confirm the TDL Group Ltd., which is responsible for locating and purchasing sites for Tim Horton’s restaurants, has purchased a piece of land here, but chose not to divulge where it is.
When asked if he thought a Tim Horton’s franchise would do well here, McQuarrie responded, “I believe so.”
Greg Skinner, corporate communications officer with TDL Group Ltd., said yesterday that he had to remian tight-lipped on the details, but did say, “The intention is to get one there this year.”
Furthermore, it’s likley in the next couple months, information such as the exact site, size of store, projected date of opening and number of people it will employee, will be revealed if all “all the i’s are dotted,” he noted.
Last August, representatives said Tim Horton’s definitely was coming to Fort Frances, but that they were looking for a location and a franchisee to operate it.
At that time, it was speculated the outlet would be built on the corner of King’s Highway and Elm Avenue across from Subway.
Construction of a Tim Horton’s usually takes about three months to complete.
Currently, about 200 Tim Horton’s restaurants are built across Canada every year.
