Tomorrow is the last day you’ll be able to get a Happy Meal at Wal-Mart here as the McDonald’s Restaurant located there is closing its doors.
Local McDonald’s owner John Myers said this morning the decision to discontinue the lease was because there weren’t enough customers.
“It was a low-volume McDonald’s location, and in today’s market the economics were just not there to support it,” he explained.
“We’ve enjoyed operating at Wal-Mart for the last seven years,” Myers added. “We opened it in January, 2004.
“We’ve had dedicated staff; they’ve enjoyed the environment, they’ve enjoyed working with the Wal-Mart associates.
“It’s been a very close association.
“It was a hard decision, but when push finally comes down to shove, it’s ‘Is it making money?’” Myers remarked.
“And that’s the question that’s got to be answered; it requires more volume.”
In related news, Myers said the main McDonald’s Restaurant here is scheduled to be completely renovated over the next two months to bring it in line with the corporation’s new interior design scheme.
“That’s exciting. It’s something to look forward to,” he enthused.
