Mayor Glenn Witherspoon said Friday he’s going to write a letter to the president of Bell Canada inquiring about concerns voiced by some local businesses over the company’s recent upgrade.
Specifically, he’s going to ask about the switch here which reportedly has been changed to a remote connected to a Thunder Bay switch.
“We’ll have communication regarding our switch and some of the disappointment for our frequent users,” noted the mayor.
Several people involved with telecommunications here have complained of slower transmissions, broken transmissions, and difficulty logging on to the Internet in the wake of recent Bell upgrades, which were touted as an improvement providing users with faster access.
“It’s really amazing. Bell said it’s an upgrade and it’s a downgrade,” charged Jerry Korman, a network analyst and architect in Bears Pass. “We have one [Internet Service Provider] in Kenora and two in Fort Frances and they’re the ones being blamed.
“In terms of speed, even trying to get on is a headache,” he added.
