The town secured $65,000 to conduct consultant work at the Shelvin Wood Yard last Thursday and Mayor June Caul is thrilled to explore opportunities for the property.
“With a landscape on prime river front consideration must be given to residential, commercial, and community services to grow our tourism and tax base because of the impending loss of industrial taxes,” she said in reference to the shuttered paper mill property being re-classified, resulting in lower income taxes for the town.
While the community has heard rumours of new business opportunities with regard to some of the mill properties and buildings on site, the town hasn’t yet seen anything concrete.
“We will continue to support new ideas with the numbered company and anyone who comes forward with a business plan in mind,” Mayor Caul noted.
