Mayor Roy Avis made a clarification at yesterday’s Administration and Finance executive committee meeting regarding his travel expenses for the OGRA/ROMA conference in Toronto last month.
As reported in the March 12 edition of the Times, the mayor’s travel expense and per diem claims were in the amount of $1,974.52, while they were $1,385.66 for Coun. John Albanese and $1,504.41 for Coun. Paul Ryan.
The reason why the mayor’s amount was higher, however, was because it included airfare which he booked and paid for himself, and was to get reimbursed for on the travel expense claim.
This was in the amount of $413.
The other two councillors’ claims did not include airfare because their flights were booked and paid for by the town. Thus, they did not have to file a travel expense claim to get the cost of the airfare back.
While this difference was not a discrepancy with the Administration and Finance executive committee, Mayor Avis said he’d had inquires from the public after the expenses appeared in the Times.
He wanted the public to know why there was a difference in the reimbursements.
