Town council passed a bylaw at its meeting Monday night to authorize the delivery of marriage solemnization services through the office of the Clerk for the Corporation of the Town of Fort Frances.
This bylaw replaces the current marriage bylaw to include updated language and be generic (i.e., it states that the town clerk is authorized to perform marriages but does not refer to the clerk by name like the previous bylaw did).
There will be no change to the services being delivered by the clerk.
Also at Monday night’s meeting, council:
•referred a petition from a resident of the 800 block of Nelson Street, re: existing storm sewer replacement, to the Operations and Facilities executive committee for its recommendation;
•forwarded the staffing request from the Museum Advisory Committee to the 2016 budget process for consideration (this is a request to have funding in place to hire a full-time employee starting next August);
•authorized the clerk to execute a participant agreement with the Ontario Power Authority’s SaveONEnergy Retrofit Program and submit said agreement to the OPA;
•provided for the statutory review of the remuneration bylaw to deem one-third of council remuneration as expenses incident to the discharge of the duties as members of council for tax purposes (this is a review done with each new term of council);
•received a letter of resignation from Deputy Chief Building Official Rick Hallam, with thanks for service;
•received a letter of resignation from the Committee of Adjustment from Jennifer Greenhalgh, with thanks for service;
•passed a bylaw to approve an agreement with 1943293 Ontario Ltd.;
•amended Bylaw 14/13, which appoints building officials for the Corporation of the Town of Fort Frances; and
•authorized the sale of certain municipal lands to J. Supinski (part of Lot 18 in the industrial park).
