Maritime comedian to stage show for Redline Club

To raise some funds for the Muskie girls’ hockey team, the Redline Club is bringing in comedian “Jimmy the Janitor” to stage some tasteful comedy in the Townshend Theatre on Aug. 21.
“Jimmy the Janitor” is a Maritime comedian who performs across Canada and the United States. He regularly appears on such TV stations as CBC and Comedy Central, has a nationally syndicated daily radio show, and also has six CDs and two more on the way.
“Jimmy the Janitor” is not really a janitor but rather was created by Sandy Gillis, a Cape Bretonite with a flair for telling jokes.
“Well, comedy wasn’t part of my master plan. It just sort of happened, eh, like a joke or two after work just to take the edge off,” Gillis explained.
Since he was telling jokes after work, they crept earlier and earlier into his routine and before he knew it, Gillis was a comedian. He’s been doing it 22 years now and he’s loving every minute of it.
“The most fun is watching the punch lines hit,” he said. “I’m standing up there and I know exactly when you are going to laugh.
“Sometimes it’s so funny I end up laughing at you laughing at me,” he quipped.
Gillis claimed the best part of the show is that it is well-tested comedy with a good ol’ Maritime flavour (“smells like fish, eh!”), but at the same time you don’t have to be from the East Coast to get it.
And you can be any age to enjoy it, as well. “Jimmy” is proud to bring a show that “you can bring yer grandma to. Folks nine to 99 will enjoy this show!”
He’s really looking forward to making it to Fort Frances for the first time ever and can’t wait to see everyone laugh.
To attend this hilarious, good-natured show, tickets can be purchased in advance at Fort Frances General Supply, McTaggarts, Tompkins Hardware, and from all Muskie girls’ hockey players and parents.
Some 150 tickets already have been sold, so you should snatch them up before they are gone.
“Jimmy” has received rave reviews from everyone he has performed for, getting such compliments like, “Worth every penny! Good clean entertainment! Haven’t laughed so hard and long in years.”
“Roars of laughter came from the youngest teen to the oldest grandpa, and each of Jimmy’s clean, witty observations and clever comedy brought another round of chuckles and applause,” another said.
The show is sure to be a hit and the Redline Club looks forward to seeing you there.
