the OPP

Pikangikum Police Service, with the assistance of members of the Red Lake OPP and the OPP’s North West Region Crime Unit, are continuing to investigate the death of Fitzgerald Owen, 32, of Pikangikum First Nation.
A post-mortem examination conducted in Toronto on April 17 indicated Owen died as a result of foul play.
Owen was found in the late-evening hours of April 14 on the side of a road.
He was transported to the local nursing station and subsequently was pronounced deceased.
On April 15, as a result of the continuing murder investigation, information led officers to arrest and charge Morgan Turtle, a 23-year-old resident of Pikangikum, with assault with a weapon.
He remained in custody pending a court appearance today in Kenora.
The investigation is continuing.
