A 26-year-old Burriss man, charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of a woman there Sunday night, is slated to make his next court appearance Monday .
Michael Tetu has been in custody since being arrested at the scene. A date for a show-cause hearing may be set at Monday’s appearance, Crown Attorney Robert “Buster” Young said this morning.
“But it can take time to arrange an hearing before a Superior Court justice, as you see from other serious cases which have become far too common here,” he noted.
“As far as we’re concerned, [Tetu] stays in jail as long as possible,” he added. “The onus now is on him and his lawyer to set up a show-cause, and give good reason as to why he should get out on bail.”
Tetu is charged in connection with the shooting death of Deanna Margaret Daw, 23, whose body was found by police in a Burriss residence around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Emo OPP had received a report of a shooting incident there and arrived to find a deceased woman.
Tetu was arrested at the scene a short while after police arrived.
No other details have been released by police.
The investigation is continuing under the direction of Det. Insp. Bill Olinyk of the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch in Kenora.
Meanwhile, results of the post-mortem examination on Daw, which was conducted yesterday at McKellar General Hospital in Thunder Bay, had not yet been forwarded to police here as of press time today.
“These things have to come to us in writing,” Fort Frances OPP Cst. Cameron Howard said this morning.
