A Fort Frances has been charged with attempted murder in connection with an incident that took place early Saturday morning on the 800 block of Scott Street.
Richard Edward Kabatay, 30, was remanded into custody at the Fort Frances District Jail, where he awaits his next court appearance scheduled for next Monday (Dec. 6), Fort Frances OPP reported this morning.
Police continue to investigate the incident, which turned into an almost 12-hour standoff after Kabatay barricaded himself inside a Scott Street residence.
OPP officers first responded to the residence around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday after receiving a report of a male being assaulted with a weapon.
Upon arrival, officers confirmed one male had a stab wound and required immediate medical attention.
The area was sealed off by police until Kabatay surrendered without incident around 4 p.m.
The stabbing victim remains in hospital with serious injuries, police said.
