Man charged in hunting accident

A 69-year-old Fort Frances man has been charged in connection with a fatal hunting accident which occurred back in December.
Police say he was arrested Thursday and charged with Careless Use of a Firearm contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Code.
He is scheduled to appear at the Fort Frances Criminal Court Aug. 29.
On Dec. 8, 2015 at approximately 4:15 p.m., officers from the Rainy River District of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service at the Emo Hospital.
Upon arrival, officers located a 47-year-old female that had arrived at the hospital and was pronounced deceased.
The Rainy River District Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Randy Heida of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, investigated the circumstances of the incident.
The OPP would like to remind everyone that improper handling of firearms can lead to tragic consequences.
Anyone handling firearms should have the proper training and use the utmost care and attention at all times.
