Early Thursday morning, Treaty Three Police Service (T3PS) was called to Grassy Narrows First Nation to investigate the assault of a 28-year-old female who was reported to have sustained several slash wounds.
The victim was transported to Lake of the woods District Hospital for treatment.
Upon arrival at the residence in Grassy Narrows First Nation, officers determined that the male suspect was inside the victim’s residence.
The T3PS Crime Unit and crisis negotiator, with the support of the Ontario Provincial Police North West Region Emergency Response Team members and K-9 Unit responded. The make was subsequently arrested without incident.
The accused, Barry Payash, 23, was charged with one count of aggravated assault and three counts of breach probation.
He appeared in court Friday in Kenora.
