The OPP, along with the Rainy River District Emergency Medical Services, responded to a roll-over mishap involving an all-terrain vehicle Wednesday around 3:35 p.m.
The incident occurred on La Vallee Road North about nine km north of Highway 11.
When officers initially arrived on scene, they tended to the ATV driver, who was a 20-year-old Fort Frances man.
Paramedics then arrived on scene and transported the male to hospital in Fort Frances.
He later was airlifted to a hospital in Thunder Bay, where he remains in serious condition.
An investigation revealed the male was operating the ATV southbound on La Vallee Road North when he lost control.
The ATV rolled over and came to rest in the east ditch.
The driver was not wearing a helmet at the time.
Police are continuing their investigation in consultation with the OPP’s North West Region Traffic and Marine Unit.
