‘Luncheon of Hope’ slated for Oct. 24

Press Release

The date for the always-popular “Luncheon of Hope” has been announced for Saturday, Oct. 24 at La Place Rendez-Vous.
Tickets cost $25 each and are on sale now at Pharmasave, Shoppers Drug Mart, Emo Health Centre, Rainy River Health Centre, and La Verendrye Hospital.
The Rainy River District Breast Health Network organizes the luncheon, which is held every two years.
This year, the network is pleased to welcome back Carole Spread as the guest speaker.
Dr. Spread spoke in 2007 in her role as surgeon, and shared her perspective on breast cancer prevention strategies and treatment options.
After having been diagnosed with breast cancer following her talk, she has agreed to come back and share her personal journey with the disease.
This will be the ninth “Luncheon of Hope” put on by the Rainy River District Breast Health Network, whose mission is to increase awareness about total breast health.
“The network is active in promoting the Riverside Breast Health Program, where women of all ages can get a clinical breast examination annually by a trained professional,” said network chair Teresa Hazel.
She reminded everyone to call 274-1900 to book an appointment for a breast examination.
Hazel also encouraged everyone to get their ticket early and avoid disappointment because they’ve always sold out for this event.
“We want women of all ages to be there . . . and we want them to know how important early detection is in the fight against breast cancer,” she stressed.
The lucky winner of the “Quilt for the Cure” raffle will be drawn at the luncheon.
Tickets for this beautiful queen-sized quilt, donated by the Cabin Country Quilt Guild, are on sale now for $2 each at various locations.
Luncheon tickets also are available by calling Shawn at 274-4817.
