Longtime auxiliary members honoured

Clara Stainke

The Legion Ladies Auxiliary Br. #29 held its general meeting on May 11, with 38 members present.
Jane McLeod won the attendance prize while the birthday draw was won by Lorraine Gosselin.
The charter was draped in remembrance of Marlene LaFreniere, who served the auxiliary with 23 years of service.
On May 1, a tea was held to honour all auxiliary members with 50 or more years of service.
We honoured the following ladies with a certificate of service and a lovely rose bowl:
•Jean Hoffman, Eleanor Kuchma, and Emily Monroe (50 years);
•Joan Taylor (53);
•Elaine Bone and Eva Costello (54);
•Marie McDiarmid (55);
•Kay Boucher, Clara McEvoy, and Mary Clinker (57);
•Jane McLeod and Vereen Zucchiatti (58);
•Dorothy Burrell, Laura McConnell, and Dot Cupp (60); and
•Nancy Shaw (69)
Then on May 6, we held our annual Veterans Supper to honour out vets, with 61 meals being served.
The ladies also presented a small skit and the prayer was given by Rosanna Tweedie.
Gwen Westover played the piano while we sang many of the old war songs.
A good time was had by all!
Don’t forget to attend the auxiliary’s monthly supper, featuring breaded minute steak, on Friday, May 27 at 5:30 p.m. upstairs at the Legion.
Other business discussed at the May 11 meeting included donations to the “Relay for Life” as well as the local Br. #29.
The next general meeting is set for Wednesday, June 8, with a potluck being held beforehand.
Hope to see all our members attending.
The Legion Ladies Auxiliary is a great way to meet new friends. Everyone is welcome to join.
