Locals to be saluted for arthritis work

The manager of the Arthritis Society’s North West Region will be in Fort Frances on Wedneday to recognize the outstanding contributions of local residents.
They include Sylvia Ottarson and Shirley Dolph of here, Steve Yeryk of Rainy River, and the Knights of Columbus (Rainy Lake Council #2766 here and the Fr. Florentine Council #9566 in Rainy River).
Ottarson and Dolph co-ordinated the Arthritis Society’s successful door-to-door canvass this year.
“The Arthritis Society is truly privileged to have such a dedicated group of volunteers who work so hard on our behalf in the community,” noted Society manager Dawn Larsen.
“These volunteers truly represent the spirit of the Arthritis Society,” she added. “They are dedicated to our important cause, unwavering in their support, and focused on improving the lives of so many in their community.”
The local Knights of Columbus Council has raised more than $250,000 over the last 10 years for arthritis research. This year, the canvassers raised $1,500 that will directly benefit people in this community.
Special awards of outstanding achievement will be handed out to Cecil Duffy, Yeryk, Kathy and Mel Haukaas, and the Knights of Columbus for their many years of commitment to the Arthritis Society and its programs.
