Local youth soccer set for registration

Fort Frances Youth Soccer will kick off its registration for its 12 season next week in hopes of equaling–or topping the close to 650 who signed up last year.
“We’ve held around that number for the past two years, which is exceptional,” noted FFYS vice-president John Pierce. “We don’t know if we can expect an increase given the town’s population.”
Registration will run March 19 from 6-8 p.m. at the Memorial Sports Centre lobby and between 6-8 p.m. at the Arena Auditorium on March 21.
There will be a $5 increase to those entering in divisions 1-3 (ages 7-10) due to a slight rise in insurance costs leaving registration costs at $40.
Divisions 4 and 5 (ages 11-16) are the same at $50 and $70 respectively (including $20 refundable jersey deposit for division 5).
In related news, Pierce said Trevor Hands will be a new addition to the group, acting as a referee chief.
“The main reason we thought this would be a good idea was because we have a number of teams playing at once and so many younger referees,” said Pierce.
“We needed a liaison for it, someone with experience to answer questions and give other refs a hand.”
Youth soccer will run from April 22 to June 13 at the St. Francis Sportsfields.
