Local volunteers honoured at dinner

Area residents who don’t mind lending a helping hand were in the spotlight last Wednesday night during the seventh-annual volunteer recognition banquet at the local Legion.
Held in conjunction with National Volunteer Week, this year’s event saw 12 volunteers honoured, including Iva Koski, Ray Dolph, Anna McNay, Daniel and Sidney Davis, Bruce Selman, Judy and Lawrence Carter, Crystal Frome, Dennis Lozier, Janice Perreault, and the Times’ own Joey Payeur.
The volunteers had offered their time to various activities, whether it was working a fundraiser Bingo, shovelling sidewalks for seniors, assisting with the “Homework Helpers” and “Meals on Wheels” programs, or helping out with events like the Terry Fox Run or community Christmas dinner.
“It was really good,” said Karen Haney of the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau, who co-organized the banquet with executive director Vanessa Hebert.
“We had a great turnout, and the Legion Ladies did an excellent job with the supper,” she added.
The evening was rounded out with entertainment by local singer Karen Irwin.
