The Northwest Tae Kwon Do club attended Master Kang’s Can-Am Games at the University of Manitoba last saturday, bringing home several medals.
Teams were competing from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Minnesota.
Instructor ken Anderson said he hopes to have more students competing next year. The club attends two tournaments in Winnipeg each year (one in November and the other in April).
Here are the following local competitors and how they fared:
•Kevin Tysz (Fort Frances)–black stripe, competed in fighting and forms, winning a bronze medal in forms.
•Ian Lougheed (Emo)–yellow belt, competed in fighting and forms, winning a gold medal in forms and a bronze in fighting.
•Timo Brielman (Stratton)–blue belt, won a silver medal in fighting.
•Kevin Wiersema (Rainy River)–blue belt, won a bronze medal in fighting.
•Mike Sandru (Pinewood)–red stripe, won a bronze medal in fighting.
•Corey Fehr (Stratton)–blue stripe, competed in both fighting and forms
