FORT FRANCES—Fort Frances native Adam Armit and fellow Fanshawe College student Joel Popoff of Schreiber are taking a shot at winning up to $250,000 after having submitted a video in the Doritos “Viralocity” online contest.
And as of Tuesday, their video was sitting at first place.
The contest asks people to come up with a name for the new Doritos “Unidentified Flavour II” tortilla chips, make a video about it, and then have it go “viral” by spreading news about the video through Facebook, Twitter, blogs, message boards, and any other means and directing people back to the DoritosViralocity.ca page to watch it.
Their video can be seen at Armit and Popoff’s website: www.prestigeenterprises.ca
The video also can be viewed through YouTube or numerous other video sites, easily found by typing “Provocative Pepper” into a Google search (“Provocative Pepper” is Armit and Popoff’s suggested name for the new Doritos flavour).
It also can be viewed at www.doritosviralocity.ca/gallery/videodetails.aspx?v=5645 although they warn people who want them to win not check out other videos, as that will give their competitors points.
The “Provocative Pepper” video shows “a college student unexpectedly caught stimulating his taste buds by his roommate,” as its description claims.
The more people who see the video, the better, and everyone who learns about it is encouraged to tell everyone they know about it.
Points are awarded for how much it is viewed, how much it is shared, the level of positive feedback, and a few other categories.
Each night, the Doritos Viralocity computers pull and compile data from all internal and external sources to update the video’s score on the site.
The video with the highest scores will be eligible for prizes, with the grand prize being $250,000.
Prizes also are available to be won for second to 344th place.
The contest began Feb. 14, and videos can be submitted until March 21.
The final score will be calculated just before midnight on March 31.
